One-stop approach to treat musculoskeletal disorders in the Bupa WAY
With the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, more people are working from home in Hong Kong. However, the working environment and equipment you have at home may not be as ideal as in the workplace. Poor posture can result in musculoskeletal pain. And musculoskeletal issues don’t only affect the elderly. A survey found that over 40% of respondents in their 30s had experienced musculoskeletal problems, which shows an increasing number of young people are suffering from these conditions. Bupa has introduced the Walking Along with You (WAY) programme for musculoskeletal pain treatment to help customers face these problems and manage their pain.
Some of the common causes of musculoskeletal disease are work-related injuries, repetitive movements, sitting or standing for a long time or carrying heavy objects incorrectly which can cause shoulder, neck, lower back or joint pain. However, many younger patients may ignore these problems or avoid seeking medical advice which leads to delays in treatment. Most musculoskeletal diseases don’t require surgery and can be managed with non-invasive treatments.
Bupa has introduced the Walking Along with You (WAY) programme together with our selected provider, Quality HealthCare Medical Services. Supported by a team of professional Care Managers, the WAY programme is designed to provide customers with a one-stop multidisciplinary approach focusing on non-invasive treatments, which include both Western and traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, herbal remedies and physiotherapy. If the situation doesn’t improve, customers will be referred to specialists and surgery may be considered.
In addition, the programme offers a free dedicated hotline supported by a designated Care Manager who is a registered nurse, to help with bookings, provide guidance on different healthcare concerns and queries. Customers can enjoy end-to-end care from consultation through treatment and regular follow-ups.
Bupa members with clinical benefits are eligible to join the WAY programme as a treatment option for musculoskeletal problems. Members can use their Bupa medical card easily for most services at network providers.
Bupa will continue to expand the WAY programme to different medical services and treatments, providing more comprehensive support to members with various health and wellness needs and caring for them in the Bupa WAY.
